The BL214 Non-Slip Deck Grip – Nano-Ceramic Coating is a clear non-slip antimicrobial deck coating, available in Flat, Satin, or Semi-Gloss    DOWNLOAD DOCUMENTATION

Provides clear, durable, non-leaching, non-toxic antimicrobial (AM) nano-ceramic surface protection for gel coats, aluminum, and steel, boat decks/tenders. Increases surface performance and safety. Contains fine texture (FT) and Wet Grip (WG) to provide sure footing when wet or dry.

  • Wet/Deck Grip was inspired by elite Marines and Special Forces units, who are used to being thrown about on the open water where the smallest miss-step can be critical, potentially affecting the operator personally, or even overall mission success.
  • For larger, more industrial uses (Fishing boats to offshore oil rigs), it can be ordered with Medium Texture (MT). Apply to float plane pontoons for added safety in getting on and off.
  • It provides a durable UV-resistant finish to protect the surface from the sun’s harmful rays and keep it looking cleaner longer, so you can spend more time enjoying your boat.
  • It fills in the surface porosity, creating a porous free surface to prevent biofilm build-up. This coating helps prevent the bonding of scale, algae, dirt, and debris from treated surfaces and helps to prevent hard water mineral buildup and stains.
  • BL214 is a high-performance • single component • ambient air-cured thin-film product. It can be applied by spray or short nap-roller.
  • It forms a molecular covalent bond with the substrate, making it a permanent part of the surface, creating a new surface impossible to remove other than with attrition or sanding.
  • Creates a hydrophobic surface to prevent water vapor pass-through.
  • This product contains a non-toxic, non-leaching antimicrobial (AM) formulation that helps protect treated surfaces from and inhibit the growth of microorganisms, molds, and odor-causing bacteria, preventing colonizing for extended periods or for as long as the coating remains on a treated surface. Use inside and out, in showers, and around pools.
  • It is non-toxic and non-leaching to ensure that the vibrant fish and marine life around you stay safe while protecting you, the people you care about, and ultimately your investment.
  • Nano ceramic deck grip coating can be applied to the entire upper deck of boats and works equally well above and below the water line when properly cured.
  • Our Wet Grip / Deck Grip helps ensure steadfast footing, even when your bare feet are covered with water. While your mission may not be as extreme, we are sure you can agree that anything that helps limit liability, keeping your friends and family safe on your boat, your dock, or around your pool, is a huge plus.

  • Safety first, ensure you use proper PPE and eye protection for all coating products.
  • For best results, read and follow the instructions properly. It is highly recommended to test the product out on a separate surface before applying it. This product is extremely vicious; it has the viscosity of rubbing alcohol and does not behave like regular paint.
  • To ensure complete coverage, applying 1-2 very thin coats at least 30 minutes apart is better.
  • Ensure the surface is properly prepared and free from grease, contamination, and oxidization. To provide the best results, clean and prepare the surface with BX506 Renew Easy Clean and Prep, then rinse and dry. This will leave an open surface ready to receive the top coating. If you are sanding the surface, wipe it to remove all particles.
  • Can be applied in conjunction with our primer: BX520HT, A high-quality Nano-Ceramic Adhesion Promoting Clear Primer, creating an intrinsic bond to prepared surfaces, such as pure silicone & more that can be used with the BL214 Non-Slip Deck Grip Coating to ensure adhesion especially when unsure of the complete removal of the previous materials. Allows for re-coating of nano-ceramic coatings without sanding or abrading the previous coat.
  • For proper application of the BL214 Nano-Ceramic coating material, the intended surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oils, dirt, and any other contaminants that may be present.
  • It can be applied by spray or short nap-roller.
    • WARNING: BE SURE TO APPLY VERY, VERY THIN COATS
    • It is suggested to apply by HVLP or similar type spray equipment and/or a thin (such as a 1/8” or 3/16” thickness) fine cell foam roller cover.
    • Apply in a somewhat linear motion, slightly overlapping over the previous area, “Wet-on-Wet,” to cover all of the intended surfaces.
    • BL214 is a thin film coating; apply 1-2 coatings at 3-5 microns each, resulting in approx. 5 to 12 microns dry film thickness.
  • Note! It is strongly suggested: to do a small test area to be sure the application technique is understood before starting on large surfaces.
  • The application method should be started at a corner or edge until complete coverage. Ensure that once you start, you don’t stop until the job is completed, or you will leave a line in the finish. Nano Ceramic coatings form a covalent bond to the substrate and cannot be removed except with abrasion.
  • Tool clean-up – use MEK or a similar solvent.

Drying Times

BL214 will be “Dry to the Touch, or dust & moisture free in approx.  25-30 minutes at ambient temperatures.

  • For best results, do not apply on cold, damp days; the ambient temperature and temperature of the substrate must be above 18°C or 65°F.
  • Ambient cured properties are obtained in approximately  12-24 hrs after application at 28°C/79°F; higher temperatures cure the coating faster • though normally, it will take at least five days to become totally crosslinked at ambient temperatures.
  • If applying this to boat decks that may get submerged – the customer “must” wait the full five days at 75F or above before placing the coated surface below water.
  • The complete cure will not occur underwater.
  • After 4+ hours – Rain on a vertical surface should not be an issue at 75 F or above (colder temps may require more cure time before exposure to rain).
  • Horizontal surfaces may be negatively affected if standing water is left on the surface before 24 hr partial cure. (temperature dependent / colder longer).
  • BX520 Nano-Ceramic adhesion promoting primer is suggested on surfaces that may be contaminated from silicone mold releases or similar surface contamination.
  • Average applied dry film thickness:  3 to 5 microns
  • Estimated Coverage Rate(@ 3 microns):  3,200 sq./ft. per gallon on a hard surface, less if brick or concrete depending upon the porosity of the surface.
  • Dry to Touch (time @ambient):  15 – 25 minutes** (average)

** a warm airflow and/or exposure to sunlight will reduce the time required to reach “Dry to the Touch.”

  • Ambient cure (full properties):  5 days/ambient*
